Dear Ah Ma brought me up from the time I was a baby till I grew up to be a teenager.

This entry is dedicated to my dearest Ah Ma.

I heard from my mum when I was growing up that I was brought up by Ah Ma ever since I was born.

As I am a girl, my dad’s mum who was an old-fashioned traditional woman, did not like my mum and disliked me a lot. She did not bother about me whenever I cried or when I was hungry.

When Ah Ma, my mum’s mother knew about this, she was very angry and demanded to take over the job of looking after me. In the end I stayed with her till I was a teenager. I would only sleep with Ah Ma and no one else.

I remember I would always follow her whenever she went to the market to buy her vegetables and groceries. She would always help me whenever I got into trouble and if my mum wanted to spank me, she would surely help me.

She was always there for me and doted on me a lot.

Only when I reached the age of 13 did my parents want me to go back and stay with them. It took a long time for them to persuade me. Only when I was promised that I could visit Ah Ma or stay over at Ah Ma’s house whenever I liked, did I move back home.

Now I am a grown up adult and Ah Ma is already 77 years old. We have moved together to another town and Ah Ma is just living on another floor of the same block that I stay in.

I always go up to see her, visit her and bring her out to buy her favourite food for her to eat. I am very lucky that Ah Ma is still around in my life and I will always cherish and treasure her with all my heart and give her all my love.

We will lie down on her bed with the aircon on and have long talks. No matter how busy I am, I always pop by to see her.

I want her to know that I will always have her in my heart no matter how busy I am and will always be by her side whenever she needs me.

Ah Ma always tells me, she wants me to be happy and have a blissful family of my own. Don’t worry, Ah Ma. I am very happy with my life. I have a husband who loves me and dotes on me more than his own life.

Attached is a photo that shows her carrying me when I was a baby and also some photos that I took with Ah Ma when I brought her to the cinema recently. She truly enjoyed the movie with my hubby, my niece and I.

She kept laughing during the movie. Looking at her laughing face, I feel happy.

I truly hope that Ah Ma will stay happy always.I can never imagine if one day she will have to leave me.
