Kymberly See Wee Ching (Entry #587)
My Grandma is full of vitality and enthusiasm.
As a baby in her tender loving care, Grandma gave me unconditional love. My Grandma and I have a playful, fun relationship which has remained the source of enjoyment and self-indulgence for both of us.
When I was “terrible two”, I trusted Grandma with her gentle touches, soft voice and sense of humor. At the age of four, Grandma showed me the world of colorful nature, exposed me to beautiful sound of music and languages and amicable social interaction with young children and mature adults. Grandma taught me to use my imagination to stimulate creativity. She took me seriously as I “played and pretended” with various themes and she respected my feelings.
Grandma never complain about the daily frustration of getting me out of bed, a shorter time in the bathroom and having balanced meals. She has her unique way of discipline and Grandma easily forgives and forgets.
At primary school, apart from the monotonous schoolwork, Grandma introduced the simple pleasures of nature trek, baking cookies, taking part in story telling and beautiful contests. Rain or shine, my Grandma will walk me to school and wait patiently to fetch me home. She will help me with my homework and outdoor projects in a natural spontaneity and with warm affection.
Now in secondary school, Grandma is my stabilising influence. She gives me confidence to excel in my school exams and pursue my interests. Grandma taught me about cultural heritage; respect for my parents and constructive problem-solving. Grandma provides stability by being readily available to help in emergency and trouble times. Grandma is my dedicated mentor and sincere confidante. Whenever I am sad grandma has a sympathetic ear – to listen without passing judgment but she gives sound encouragement and practical advice to exemplify happiness and endurance. Grandma is someone whom I can trust with my little secrets. Her wisdom and philosophy of life experiences and broader perspective, created the perfect platform for learning good morals and values.
Grandma illustrated the benefits of “thinking out of the box”. She takes up computer lessons and learns to use email to communicate anecdotes when she goes on holiday. Grandma never fails to make or buy thoughtful gifts for all special occasions. Grandma fosters my self-esteem by showing constant love and gentle acceptance through meaningful words and memorable deeds.
My Grandma is a very precious gem. I am sorry Grandma for letting you worry so much and exhausting you with the hassles and constraints of the day-to-day demanding responsibilities. Your effect, time and devotion certainly booster and strengthen me, both physically and emotionally. Please allow yourself time to rejuvenate and re-energize with friends. Grandma, I will never let go of your hands (let me hold your hands tightly and continue life’s journey) even when I become an adult and you become frail and vulnerable. Nothing can replace our relationship and I will love you forever.
