Dearest Grandma and Grandpa,

Many of us are fortunate to have grandparents but I have been especially blessed to have you in my life. In fact, when my mother became pregnant with me, my parents turned to my grandparents for advice and assistance.

This was probably because my parents were too young and needed someone to hold their hands and provide guidance. I believe most parents would have depended on their parents at that crucial time.

During my childhood too, my grandparents were there by my parents’ side as they raised me. Needless to say, I owe much to my grandparents.

My grandparents are symbols of wisdom. They always shared their life experiences and gave me valuable guidance. My grandparents may not have been academically successful or up-to-date in matters of science and other branches of knowledge but their strong love, care and concern made me feel so grateful that even if I had a thousand tongues, it would not have sufficed to thank them.

It was my grandparents who taught me that though money and other materialistic symbols are nice to have, the real essence in life is moral values and faith in God. I really admire their strong moral values and unshakeable faith in God.

As a toddler, my mother left me at my grandparents’ place while she worked. She also had my elder sister to take care of. So I spent most of my time with my grandparents.

Therefore, I became much more attached to my grandparents than my parents. They were virtually my surrogate parents. Later, I moved in to live with my Mum and Dad. But every weekend, I made it a point to visit them.

Often, my grandparents would visit us too as we lived nearby. Unfortunately, when I was nine, I lost my grandfather. It was such a heartbreaking moment that I still feel the sense of loss. That was when my grandmother moved in with us.

Since then, we have been very close. She has been more than a friend to me. She has been there to share my joy, sorrows, successes and failures. Her encouragement, motivation and valuable prayers have been a great support to me.

Not forgetting her talent in cooking. She is definitely one of the best cooks in the world! Apart from all these, we do spent memorable and happy moments shopping and marketing on weekends.

All I can say is I have been really blessed with wonderful grandparents. I must say that one of the reasons for my happiness today is my grandmother! My greatest fear would be to lose her.

While she is with us, I make a conscious effort to show her all my love and gratitude. I treasure every single moment I have with her. I truly hope everyone will treasure their grandparents as much as I treasure mine.
