Dear Grandfather,

You always say, “Xin Yu, never mind its okay. Next time you just have to try harder.”

You are tall and wear spectacles. You are stronger than my father as you play badminton twice a week.

You were born in Malaysia and came to work in Singapore for 45 years. You married my grandmother in Singapore.

You will pick me up from my nanny’s house whenever my parents are busy.

Sometimes, you will sing a song for me. When I visit you during the weekends, you will show me flashcards and teach me lots of things. You taught me how to read the animal picture cards.

You have given me lots of memories during my childhood. When I grow old, I will take care of you.

I hope that you will live to a ripe old age. When I grow up, I hope that you can go shopping with me.

When I was a baby, you would always make monkey faces at me. Most of the time, I would also follow you and I would always laugh.

There is an incident that I can remember, I accidentally spilled chilli sauce on you at your house and you had to clean up.

I will always love you. Sorry if I have been a bad girl.

Love,
Hou Xin Yu
