Goh Zhen Hui (Entry #970)
Dear Grandma,
Whenever I see the photos that we took when I was still a little child, I could not help but recall those happy moments we had spent together and they never fail to bring a smile across my face. Indeed, the days spent playing with you at the back of our kampong in Malaysia were the best times I had.
Mother often tells me of how much you dote on me since I was a baby. I have absolutely no doubts about that! You loved to hum melodious lullabies to coax me to sleep and to speak soft comforting words into my ears – our little secrets. As I was a plump little baby, you could not carry me with your weak arms, but you would always be asking Mom to carry me before you, so that you could shower me with lots of attention and care.
See that smile on my face? I just loved to cuddle in your arms! Of all the cousins, you loved me most and would also give in to my little demands. And I loved to celebrate my birthdays too as I knew I would be able to expect great presents from you!
Grandma, do you know that ever since I came to Singapore, my birthdays are never the same? Not because I do not get your present, but because you are not here to celebrate with me. How I miss those celebrations where I would mischievously smear your nose with cream from the birthday cake! Of course, the “punishment” that you would melt on me would be – cake on my cheeks as well! Lovely times, isn’t it?
Thank you, Grandma for all those happy memories. I promise you I would come visit you right after my examinations. Meanwhile, remember me ok!
