- What is To My Grandpa/Grandma about?
This is a nationwide contest organised by the National Library Board together with media partners STOMP and My Paper. Grandchildren are invited to share stories and memories of their grandparents by either writing or producing a digital film/video.To My Grandpa/Grandma is supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, the Council for Third Age, as well as the Ministry of Information, Communication and The Arts. SA Tours is our prize sponsor. - Why is NLB organising To My Grandpa/Grandma?
The contest aims to foster inter-generational bonding – grandchildren are encouraged to interact with their grandparents and family and capture the love, wisdom and important values of our seniors.Told from the perspectives of grandchildren, these stories and memories will be compiled and shared via the web and special edition books, a legacy to be passed on for all generations of Singaporeans. - Who is eligible to participate?
All Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and Singapore Residents can take part. - What categories can I participate in?
There are three categories: (i) Primary Schools, (ii) Secondary Schools, and (iii) Open (for students beyond Secondary Schools and adults). - What can I do to find out more?

Submission of Entries
- Can I submit more than one entry? Will all entries be featured?
Yes, you can submit as many entries as you wish. Written and film/video entries submitted will be featured on STOMP. Entries that contain any illegal, defamatory, obscene, or offensive material will be disqualified and thus not featured. - How can I submit my entry? Who do I submit to?

Entries have to include participant’s name(s), age(s), IC number(s), contact number(s), address/email address, name of school (for Primary & Secondary category where applicable) in their submission. Failure to do so may disqualify the entry. - What are the important dates to take note?
Closing date for entries: 31 August 2008.
Book Launch and Prize Presentation: November 2008.

Entries in Writing
- Is there a limit to the number of words I can write?
Written entries should not exceed 500 words. - Can I take part in this or co-write with someone else?
No. Only original submissions by individuals will be accepted.

Entries in Digital Film/Video
- How long should the digital film/video be?
The duration of the digital video entries should be between a minimum length of 30 seconds and a maximum length of 5 minutes. - Can I form a group to produce this film/video?
Yes. Original submissions by groups or individuals are acceptable for entries in digital film/video. - Are there any requirements for style, format, and language?
Videos can be in any style or genre (animation, documentary, narratives using photos, etc) but the final work must be in digital format (mini-DV, Digi Beta, HD, mobile phone, digital still camera, Flash, etc).If videos are not in English, English subtitles should be included. All participants must own all copyrights or have written permission to use all materials, music and other sensitive aspects in their videos.

Winners & Prizes
- How many winners will there be?
There will be six winners – one written entry and one film/video entry from each of the three categories.Primary Schools Secondary Schools Open Writing Film/Video Writing Film/Video Writing Film/Video - What are the prizes?
The six winners will each receive a pair of tour packages to Japan from SA Tours. These tour packages are inclusive of fuel surcharges and taxes for two persons up to $1,600 in total. Winners will be notified by email or phone. - How will the winners be determined?
Winners will be determined by a combination of public voting and decision by judges convened by NLB. The judges’ decision is final. No appeal will be entertained.

Special Edition Books
- How will NLB select entries for publication? Will I be informed if my entry is selected?
There will be a panel of judges to select the entries that are published into a book, which may or may not include the winning entries from the contest. If your entry is selected, we will inform you and you will receive a complimentary copy of the book. - When will the books be launched? Where can I get a copy of this book and how much will it cost?
More details about the book launch event and the books will be available in November 2008. Information and updates on the books will be provided to contest participants and published here at www.dearsingapore.sg.
